Yesterday we embarked on our 8 hour journey to serve the community of Laredo, Texas! 🙂 We departed Lubbock bright and early, and had the pleasure of watching the sun rise. I think watching the sun rise was the perfect start to our week-long trip to volunteer with Habitat For Humanity Laredo; with a new horizon. The drive seemed to fly by as we all exchanged stories and jammed out to a wide variety of music. Once we arrived, we were greeted with open arms by the Habitat For Humanity staff and volunteers at the First United Methodist university Church of Laredo. Carol Shirwood, Executive Director/CEO of HFH Laredo, gave us an informative orientation presentation. It was truly comforting to learn that the staff we will be working with are all very friendly and that the atmosphere which they have cultivated here is like a family. The passion with which Mrs. Shirwood spoke about her work and the involvement of HFH Laredo on the local community was so inspiring. Everyone made sure to introduce themselves and make us feel more than welcomed. I’m excited to help lead our group on an impactful week of service learning. It’s a beautiful day to be alive!
