This week has gone by so fast! It’s already Wednesday and halfway through our trip. The house has shown great progress since we arrived on Monday. The structure of the roof is up and the shed is up and coming. The morning started off with great dancing from our own Carlos Acosta and homeowner Mrs. Aguilar. That lifted up the mood for the rest of the day. Our assigned duties were focused on finishing the backyard shed and any other remaining touches. During lunchtime, I had the opportunity to speak with one of the AmeriCorps volunteers. We discussed the process and benefits of being a part of this organization, the ins and outs of Laredo’s Habitat for Humanity, and how his life has changed due to these two organizations. He has made me give some thoughts towards looking more into AmeriCorps and see what it could do for me. I also had the chance to speak more personally with the other volunteers and learn more about their backgrounds. They are the type of people that make working under the hot sun for hours bearable. It makes me a bit sad to think that tomorrow will be our last day with such an incredible group of people. I am positive though that my group and I will be making the most out of it and continue to put our best foot forward.
