This week was full of awesome experiences, new things learned, and amazing people. The hospitality and familial atmosphere from Habitat for Humanity Laredo was a recurring theme that made this trip one of the best yet. The volunteers and home owners have a wonderful chemistry while working together that made the seven hour long work days seem like no work at all. From operating an electrical chain saw for the first time, working up on a roof top, to fire-blocking, everyone was patient and encouraging. To end the week and as a sign of appreciation the volunteers and home owners prepared a goodbye Fiesta, Laredo style with great food, lotería, dancing, and goodie bags with a bonus treat of home made ice cream courtesy of our very own Ross Myers. Lastly we visited the border and saw the Rio Grande River and toured the TA&MIU campus. But, we couldn’t head back without first trying the amazing Mariachis (breakfast burritos) from Paulitas Restaurant. All in all this trip was one that resulted in new skills learned, amazing memories, and great friends that we know have their doors open and welcoming for the next time we decide to visit Laredo, Texas!
